No Country for Old Men

[Carla Jean] looked away. ‘You make it like it was the coin. But you’re the one.’
‘It could have gone either way.’
‘The coin didn’t have no say. It was just you.’

High Fidelity

Rob: “What came first, the music or the misery? Did I listen to music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to music? Do all those records turn you into a melancholy person…The unhappiest people I know, romantically speaking, are the ones who like pop music the most; and I don’t know whether pop music has caused this unhappiness, but I do know that they’ve been listening to the sad songs longer than they’ve been living the unhappy lives.”

The Sandman

Dream from The Sandman #13, Men of Good Fortune

Dream, one of the Endless, is the guardian of the Dreaming, a realm of imagination, reflection and inspiration. After seventy years of imprisonment, he escapes from his captors and finds his kingdom corrupted in his absence.

Rose and Desire, from the Sandman #65, the Kindle Ones #9

Rose Walker:

Love…horrible, isn’t it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and opens your heart and it means someone can get inside you and mess you up….you give them a piece of you. They don’t ask for it. They do something dumb one day like kiss you, or smile at you, and then your life isn’t your own anymore.

Anansi Boys

Being summer and all, I decided I would have a fun read with this book by Neil Gaiman. I was told that it was a story in the same style as American Gods which I enjoyed, and I would recommend this story if you liked that one. For those not in the know, imagine a contemporary setting where supernatural entities and regular people come into contact on a frequent basis. Then, add a little ego, humor, everyday drama, and larger-than-life adventure, and you’ve got yourself a story. A few days after finishing the story, I was walking down the street, and heard a collection of children chanting, ‘Spider!’ loudly, and I smiled a little bit to myself about the song they were all sharing.
